Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars” premiered Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. on Disney+ and ABC. Thirteen new stars and their professional partners, referred to as pros, performed dances to songs of the star’s choice, and no couples were eliminated. After a week of no elimination, the couples returned to the ballroom on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The scores from the previous week transferred over, for an Oscars-themed night with a double elimination at the end.
Here’s how the night went:
Bachelorette Jenn Tran and partner Sasha Farber performed a tango to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” by Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock from the movie “The Great Gatsby.” Judge Derek Hough described Tran as a natural performer and focused on her arm positioning during his critiques. The performance received a total score of 19, with two sixes from judges Derek Hough and Carrie Ann Inaba and one seven from judge Bruno Tonioli. That gave Tran and Farber a combined score of 36 from both nights.
Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts and partner Brit Stewart performed a waltz based on the movie “The Godfather” to “The Godfather Waltz” by Nino Rota & Carlo Savina. Hough called the dance simple and smooth and Inaba cited that she saw improvement from the couple. Roberts and Stewart received a six from Inaba, four from Hough and a five from Tonioli, giving them a total score of 30 from both weeks.
Super Bowl champion Danny Amendola and partner Witney Carson performed a jive to “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins from the movie “Top Gun.” In the rehearsal footage, Amendola said, he was “determined to be more natural” in his dancing. After the performance, Hough told Amendola he “showed big improvement from last week,” and described him as committed. The couple received sevens from all three judges, giving them a total score of 41 for both weeks.
Convicted con artist Anna Delvey, referred to as a fashionista and entrepreneur by the show, and partner Ezra Sosa performed a “The Devil Wears Prada” themed quickstep to “Suddenly I See” by KT Tunstall. Delvey has received a great deal of hate on social media for her appearance on the show and when asked during her rehearsal about how it has affected her she answered, “I get upset for a short moment of time, but then I just move on.” Delvey and Sosa received a six from both Inaba and Tonioli and one five from Hough. This gave the couple a combined score of 35 for both nights.
Actress Chandler Kinney and partner Brandon Armstrong were at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the previous week with their tango to “Hot To Go” by Chappell Roan. This week they performed a “Barbie” themed rumba to “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish. During the judge’s critiques, Hough said Kinney was “made for dancing.” Inaba furthered the sentiment saying she created moments that “touched us all.” The duo received three eights from the judges, receiving a combined score of 47, and putting them at the top of the leaderboard for another week.
“Die Hard” actor Reginald VelJohnson and partner Emma Slater performed a “Die Hard” themed paso doble to “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven. In the rehearsal footage, VelJohnson described working with Bruce Willis, and during the judge’s critiques, Hough called VelJohnson an “American treasure.” VelJohnston and Slater received a six from Inaba, four from Hough and five from Tonioli providing them with a total of 31 from both nights.
Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and partner Rylee Arnold performed a “Superman” themed paso doble to “Superman – Main Theme” by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra to honor the nickname “Clark Kent” that Nedoroscik earned during the Olympics. During his rehearsal footage, Nedoroscik said he “never would have been on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ if it weren’t for that meme.” During the critiques, Inaba said Nedoroscik has a likeability factor, and Hough described the dance as jam-packed. Tonioli said there was a lot of energy, but they need to refine it. The performance received an eight from Inaba and a seven from both Hough and Tonioli, giving Nedoroscik and Arnold a score of 43 for both nights.
“The Bachelor” star Joey Graziadei and partner Jenna Johnson performed a “classic rumba,” according to Hough, to “Shallow” by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper from the movie “A Star Is Born.” After the performance, Inaba said Graziadei was using his momentum and knew when to shift, further adding that it was mesmerizing to watch. The duo tied with Nedoroscik and Arnold, receiving two sevens from Hough and Tonioli and one eight from Inaba. This gave them a total score of 43 for both weeks.
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks and partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy performed a “Dreamgirls” themed foxtrot to “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” by Jennifer Hudson. Tonioli said, “…this dream girl is here to stay,” and that she saw much more control and presence. Inaba added that Parks has emotion and impact, and Hough finished off the judge’s critiques by saying he, “can’t help but smile and smirk.” The duo received three sevens for their performance, earning a combined score of 40 for both weeks.
“90210” actress Tori Spelling and pro Pasha Pashkov performed a rumba dedicated to her family to “This Is Me,” by Keala Settle from the movie “The Greatest Showman.” Inaba told Spelling that she saw her really take a risk and open up her heart. Tonioli added that she let herself embrace the situation and music. Spelling remarked that she was so pumped to go out there, and the duo received two sixes from Hough and Tonioli and one seven from Inaba, giving them a total score of 36 for both weeks.
NBA player Dwight Howard and partner Daniella Karagach performed a foxtrot to “City of Stars” by Ryan Gosling from the movie “La La Land.” The pair’s height difference served as a challenge, and in the rehearsal footage Karagach said they were going to try to do forearm connection to combat it. Although, she was worried the judges might take points off for it. After the performance, Tonioli described Howard as, “so light, so caring, so graceful,” and Inaba called him a poet. The duo received an eight from Inaba and sevens from both Hough and Tonioli, giving them a combined score of 44 for both weeks.
Model Brooks Nader and partner Gleb Savchenko performed a ballet-themed quickstep to “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton. Inaba noted that Nader tends to rush certain moments and Hough said she has all the ingredients but needs more time to bake them together. Hough also noticed that Savchenko used the tango frame rather than the quickstep frame and gave the pair a six because of it. They received sevens from both Inaba and Tonioli giving them a final score of 38 for both weeks, tying with Tran and Farber.
Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher and partner Alan Bersten performed a salsa to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes from the movie “Dirty Dancing.” During the judge’s critiques, Inaba said Maher is, “restructuring the whole conversation on what femininity is,” and Tonioli told Maher that her hips were “singing.” When questioned about being lifted during the performance, Maher explained that in her sport they do lifting, but she never gets lifted. For that reason, it took a lot of trust in Bersten to perform the lifts. All three judges gave the pair a seven, which gave them a total score of 39 points for both weeks.
At the end of the night, the leaderboard was as follows:
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong – 47 points
Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach – 44 points
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson – 43 points
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold – 43 points
Danny Amendola and Witney Carson – 41 points

Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber – 38 points
Tori Spelling and Pasha Pashkov – 36 points
Anna Delvey and Ezra Sosa – 35 points
Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater – 31 points
Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart – 30 points
The final three pairs during the elimination were VelJohnston/Slater, Spelling/Pashkov and Delvey/Sosa. Spelling/Pashkov and Delvey/Sosa were ultimately eliminated. Although Roberts/Stewart and VelJohnston/Slater were at the bottom of the leaderboard, they were saved from elimination by fans’ votes.
