Batter Up!
All-in-One Third Baseman and Pitcher
Tommy Mulkern, a varsity baseball player at Frisco High School, loves playing baseball. He has been on the varsity baseball team since freshman year and plans to stay with it all four years. “Yes, I plan on playing all four years of High School,” Tommy said. “If I can, I would love also to play college baseball.”
Coach Farra recognized Tommy’s abilities early on and put him on the varsity line-up his freshman year. “I played baseball mostly because my friends started playing it and it turned into my favorite sport,” Tommy said. “Some of the biggest challenges are playing against people that may be two years older than me and have more experience.” Tommy will be a junior in the fall and remains on the varsity team as a pitcher and third baseman.
Each player brings his own style and athletic skills to the sport. When working together, the players only have one goal in mind; to win. “The team strengths are defense and talent in the outfield.” When offense and defense are both at the top of their game, the team can count on victories.
Players also enjoy playing before a crowd. Knowing that friends, family, and fans have come to support them is a huge encouragement. “I think we play better in front of large audiences because it makes us focus more on the game and play better,” Tommy said.
There are still a few weeks left in the season. Check out the schedule and make plans to attend some games. It will give the players a boost and also make for a fun evening at the ballpark.
