Best Buddies is hosting their annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 26. This event will be in the parking lot from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Trunk or Treat is open to the entire Frisco community. Since this is a Halloween event, guests can dress in costumes, but are not required to.
Many students in school and extracurricular activities contribute to Trunk or Treat by decorating a trunk and giving out candy. Volunteers have a theme for each trunk and some have games for the trick or treaters to play.
“There are decorated trunks with themes like superheroes: Ninja Turtles, Scooby Doo, Barbie,” Sponsor Melanie Newberry said. “Each trunk hosts a game, gives out candy or prizes and interacts with the trick or treaters.”
Trunk or Treat started 12 years ago by the Best Buddies committee officer at the time. This event has been a popular event for special needs students as well as the rest of the community.
“Our school community comes together to spread inclusion by hosting trunks and having fun,” Newberry said. “The community also is aware of the event and brings their kids for a safe Halloween event. It is also well known among the community that this event is geared toward students with special needs.”
Not only do students receive service hours for participating in this event, they also enjoy seeing all the happy kids. Students get to create new memories with their friends while also creating indelible memories for the kids coming to the event.
“I love seeing the little kids always happy and running around,” Neela Thenmadathil, ‘26, said. “It is fun to see them play the games at each trunk, making them smile is the best part.”
