Jazzed Up
FHS Jazz Band Prepares for a spring debut.
The Frisco High School’s Jazz Band is a band that prepares and plays a variety of jazz pieces and is directed by Mr. Courtney. The Jazz Band practices on Tuesday and Thursday morning for ninety minutes begging at 7 AM. The instruments include saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass, piano, and drums.
Unlike previous years, the Jazz Band now includes flutes and clarinets. The FHS Jazz Band recently had their first concert of the year at Hunt Middle School and will be having many more performances throughout the year. The students in the band work very hard and set time aside outside of school to practice their music together.
“My favorite part about Jazz Band is being able to improvise over chords,” said a saxophone player in the band, “It really pushes me to think outside the box and I love coming up with new melodies.” “My favorite part about Jazz Band,” said trumpet player Ryan Hovey, “is the music that we play. I like being able to pull out my music every morning and improving on it.”
Jazz Band is made up of many passionate students who love to perform a different style of music. The Frisco Jazz Band is scheduled to play several concerts during the spring semester. Dates and locations will be provided soon.
