The stadium fills with noise as the crowd cheers the team on. Cheerleaders line the field. People fill the stands, dressed in blue and gold. As the time ticks down, Jomarye Tucker gets into position, waiting for the whistle. Winning this game has added pressure.
During the pink-out pep rally on October 26, varsity defensive tackle, Jomarye Tucker, and Assistant Principal Eric Minyard announced they had made a bet.
“If the football team won against Lone Star and Wakeland, I would shave my beard,” Minyard said. “However, if they lose either of those games, Jomarye has to shave his head.”
The idea of a bet was first introduced by Jomarye.
“We were at a volleyball game, and he approached me,” Minyard said. “He was like, ‘Hey, let’s make a bet.’ So I just went along with it.”
The football team played Lone Star on October 26, but unfortunately, they didn’t win. This means that Minyard won’t have to shave his beard. However, Jomarye is on the losing side of the bet.
“I was hoping I would lose, obviously, because I want Frisco to win all of their games, but, at the same time, I didn’t want to shave my beard,” Minyard said.
On Friday, November 3, the team played against Wakeland. Their score was 42-24, Frisco’s loss. However, the team ended ranked fourth in the district and played in the first round of the playoffs.
“I’m very proud of all we’ve accomplished,” head football coach Jeff Harbert said. “No one expected us to make the playoffs, and we’ve done that. Everyone had great attitudes and team chemistry. They were a very unselfish group and remained positive throughout the adversity we saw this season.”
Jomarye Tucker declined to comment.
