Color guard teams across the district gathered on Feb. 21 for the 15th annual flag night showcase. 

“Flag night is to bring the different schools and community together to showcase the many talented students and the color guards in Frisco ISD,” color guard coach Toby Leikness said. 

Flag night typically attracts a large audience including alumni and parents. 

“Flag night usually [is] our biggest audience and it becomes especially nerve-racking knowing you are being watched by people who know what is wrong or right in the sport,” captain Deniz Ari said. “Alumni usually come back to watch this show so having an increased amount of familiar eyes on you is always challenging.”

According to Ari, performing in front of other color guard teams helps teammates improve their routines and receive inspiration. 

“Getting to perform to an audience full of people who are in the same activity as you is especially special because they know just how much effort you have put into everything that you do,” Ari said. 

After working on the show routine for three and a half months, sophomore Duaa Iqbal is excited to perform in front of her parents.

“The most rewarding part of flag night has been making our coach and my parents proud of what I have put a lot of effort into,” Iqbal said.
