With Thanksgiving approaching we all have different traditions we celebrate. It could be anything from staying home with family to traveling across the country. No matter where we are or what we do it tends to always be spent with family and friends. Frisco High school provides a great opportunity to learn how families plan to spend the Thanksgiving holiday.

Some families plan to travel across the country to be with relatives. “For Thanksgiving my family travels to California to spend the holiday with my grandparents,” said senior Cyvana Skidmore. “My favorite part about Thanksgiving is getting to spend time with family as we play games with everyone after dinner.”

Thanksgiving is an opportunity to make the home the center of activity for some familes. “Our family comes to our house to celebrate Thanksgiving,” saif senior Marissa Redington. “My favorite food is sweet potato casserole with marshmallows.”

Like Marissa, most people have a favorite Thanksgiving food and activity.

“My family gathers at our house, as well,” said senior Mason Dierkes. “I love that we all come together and get to watch the Cowboys game. “My favorite food is pumpkin pie.”

Thanksgiving has been a tradition in the United States for over two hundred years, even before it officially became a Nationl holiday in 1870. Americans continue to get together with family and friends much like the First Thanksgiving in 1621. Today, we have added football and cell phones to the menu.
