Egg My Yard is an annual event, hosted by theater students, to raise money for the department and celebrate Easter by suprising children with Easter baskets. 

“For the kids, it’s a really great way to spread Easter magic because they get to wake up to a really sweet surprise,” sophomore Irene Ruiz Nunez said. 

The week before Easter, students take dozens of colorful plastic eggs and fill them with candy. The day before, the students drive around the city to secretly place the eggs in the family’s gardens while the kids are asleep.

“I’m excited for the driving and dropping off part because I really like the group I’m with,” Ruiz Nunez said. “I already know we’re gonna mess around and it’s gonna be really fun.”

Technical theater teacher Lisa Custer signed up for eggs to be delivered to her house last year.

“My kid knows that his dad and I didn’t go outside so he was very bewildered when they were there,” Custer said. “He couldn’t figure out how we made it happen. Before, he was old enough where he had written it off as we were doing it, but the students delivering them definitely made it more questionable.”

The theater students compete with each other to see who can make the most eggs and advertise the most. 

“I like how we were able to work together as a group to do something that was good for the community,” sophomore Brandon Heit said.”It was fun to make it a friendly competition between the students in the department while doing something good.”
